Minnesota Zoo

In 1969, the Minnesota Legislature initiated plans for a state-funded zoo, leading to the Minnesota Zoological Gardens’ opening in 1978. A proposed monorail system faced legislative rejections and financial challenges. Despite delays, the Skytrail opened in 1979 with low ridership, leading to financial issues. It was ultimately purchased by the zoo in 1985, operating until 2013.
