On October 23, Hersheypark in the Dark will turn 20 years old. The first season the event occurred was in 1998. Creatures of the Night originally began as a single night event on October 31, 1979 in ZooAmerica. In 1992, Creatures of the Night expanded into Minetown (today, Kissing Tower Hill) and several kiddie rides and Flying Falcon were operated. Over the following few seasons, the number of rides in operation expanded.
In 1997, the entrance of Creatures of the Night was switched from ZooAmerica to the main entrance of Hersheypark. The Halloween event was popular enough in 1997 that it resulted in the overall event be named Hersheypark in the Dark and ZooAmerica continued Creatures of the Night.
