Hersheypark pushed its opening date from April to May when it opened for the 1972 season. Early May would serve as the start date for the Hersheypark season until the turn of the new century. During this era, Hersheypark would begin to add shoulder seasonal events, first in the fall, then around Christmastime. In 2000, Hersheypark added Springtime in the Park, an event over Easter weekend. This moved the opening date of the park back into April.
The earliest Hersheypark opened in this era was May 7 in 1972, 1978, and 1994.
