Contemporary

HimalayaContemporary was a named region in Hersheypark that was intended to be a themed area. The original plan called for a themed area named Contempo – this theme concept ultimately became Tower Plaza. What was left of the contemporary concept became part of the hill where the Coal Shaker and Himalaya were.

Contemporary had several rides aside from Coal Shaker and Himalaya, including Mini-Comet and the OutBoard Motor Boats. Mini-Comet was removed after theĀ 1978 season and OutBoard Motor Boats became Granny Bugs in 1985 (they were relocated elsewhere in the park).

In 1990, the Minetown theme area was created by mergingĀ the Contemporary and Tower Plaza areas. Today, this is part of Kissing Tower Hill.
